TesseracT a revenit. Și nu orișicum, ci cu o reamintire și reîntărire a numelui pe care și l-a câștigat cu multă muncă și sacrificii. „Sonder” se prezintă sub forma unui EP mai degrabă, însă, nu vă faceți griji, acest lucru garantează că materialele discografice vor ieși din mai des din studio-ul băieților (chiar conform spuselor lor).
Albumul debutează cu „Luminary”, una dintre cele trei piese folosite pe post de teaser. Cu urcușuri și coborâșuri tipice și un refren ușor de reținut, „Luminary” întrupează partea mai „digerabilă” a trupei, regăsită pe ultimele materiale îndeosebi. Cu bucățile de tranziție ce tind spre agresiv însă, TesseracT ne dezvăluie în cadrul acestui debut că materialul discografic va însemna și o reîntoarcere la rădăcini. Lirica, pe tot întregul său, abordează subiecte moderne, în cadrul cărora ne putem regăsi atât noi ca societate, cât și noi ca indivizi:
„Are you alone, locked inside
That prison in your head?
You walk through the crowd
Lost in the sound.
Invisible to every passing eye”.
„King” este preferata mea dintre cele trei piese deja lansate fiindcă reprezintă o conciliere perfectă între istoricul lor discografic neliniar, punând în prim plan atât dexteritatea instrumentiștilor, cât și versatilitatea vocală a lui Tompkins, readucând de astă dată în atenția fanilor și țipetele controlate, care schimbă dinamica pieselor, întâlnite încă de la începuturile trupei. Single-ul se bucură și de un videoclip plin de emoție, care accentuează punctele sale cheie:
„Bow down submit to me and kiss the ground
Until it’s safe to breathe and coexist again”.
Continuăm cu una dintre cele două creații de tranziție din cadrul materialului, „Orbital”. Acest tip de piese, scurte și de efect, nu sunt necunoscute fanilor, mai ales celor care au tocit butonul de repetare pentru „Concealing Fate”. Cu un instrumental care să-ți ofere un moment de respiro între full length-uri și care-și clădește finalul completat de o intervenție vocală, „Orbital” se pierde treptat în ritmul deja asociat cu cei de la TesseracT, pentru a face loc lui „Juno”. Cu unul dintre mix-urile mele preferate de pe album, alături de cea care o să îi urmeze, „Juno” este definiția a tot ceea ce reprezintă TesseracT. Mai mult decât tehnică, mai mult decât tranziții fine, mai mult decât un talent vocal, ci „a picture perfect moment” în care te poți rătăci voluntar și complet. Cea mai lungă compoziție este „Beneath My Skin / Mirror Image”, o piesă care te poartă prin nemărginite stări datorită construcției sale alternate, a sentimentului de întuneric întregit de lumină, a vocii care se bucură de prim plan pe de-a lungul sau mai mult decât pe restul materialului, a detașării de masca armoniilor și a eliberării într-o buclă a simțămintelor oamenilor din spatele muzicii. Piesa se bucură însă de o divizare completă între cele două părți ale sale, intro-ul pentru ambele secțiuni fiind cel care asigură scenariul în care te vei include, amintindu-mi de unele dintre piesele mele preferate din era „Concealing fate” și „Perspective”. „Smile” capătă un nou chip pentru album față de cea cunoscută, cu un mix mai fin și inserții ceva mai visătoare înspre outro-ul său, iar momentele de forță vocală sunt un deliciu pe care cu siguranță îl așteptam cu toții cu inima la gură.
Cea care anunță finalul este cealaltă piesă scurtă dintre cele două menționate anterior și este o ieșire din scenă cât se poate de elegantă și memorabilă, incorporând toate elementele pe care-și bazează axa întregul material discografic.
Chiar dacă poate părea scurt comparativ cu albumele anterioare, „Sonder” reprezintă întocmai o reînviere a iubirii față de această trupă, o renaștere în ton cu anotimpul, cu atât mai mult dacă le-ai fost alături încă de la începuturi. Făcut cu gândul la structurile care i-au făcut să iasă din anonimat și i-au menținut printre cei sonori în sfera djent-ului, TesseracT a pus în acest material o muncă care este TesseracT. Toate albumele lansate de ei sunt la loc de cinste în portofoliul muzical fiindcă cu greu ai putea spune că au lansat vreodată ceva care poate fi descris altcumva decât bun, însă acesta îmi reamintește de ce m-am îndrăgostit de la prima audiție de ei și de acest gen muzical și mă face să retrăiesc amintirile din acele perioade, plusat din nou de o lirică cu care putem rezona cu ușurință. Nu doar demonstrație tehnică (așa cum este cazul multora în ziua de astăzi), nu doar talent, ci muzică. Fiindcă despre asta este vorba.

TesseracT is back. And not just back with a new record, but with a bang that reinforces the hard-worked renown they have gained for themselves. „Sonder” presents itself as more of an EP than a full length, but, not to worry, that guarantees that we’ll be enjoying new records from the boys sooner than we’re used to (as themselves have stated).
The album debuts with „Luminary”, one of the three singles that were used as a teaser for it. With its ups and downs, its ebb & flow and a catchy chorus, „Luminary” showcases the „easier” part of the band’s sound, that you can mostly hear on their last discographic materials. But its transition pieces tend to flow into the aggressive sphere, TesseracT letting us know, in this manner, that the record is a return to the much loved roots. The lyrics, on the entire album, approach modern subjects that eat away our souls on a daily basis, in which we can find ourselves as a society and as individuals driven by emotions:
„Are you alone, locked inside
That prison in your head?
You walk through the crowd
Lost in the sound.
Invisible to every passing eye”.
„King” is my favorite out of the three already released because it represents a perfect conciliation between their nonlinear musical history, highlighting the band’s technical prowess, as well as the vocals multiple facades, bringing back into the fans attention the controlled and beautiful screams, that completely manage to change the track’s dynamic, that we were so fond off at their beginning as a band. The single is accompanied by a video that overflows with emotion and accentuates its key points:
„Bow down submit to me and kiss the ground

We continue with one of the two transitional creations off the material, „Orbital”. This type of tracks, short but filled with essence, are not unfamiliar to the band’s fans, in particular to those that have worn off the repeat button for „Concealing Fate”. With an instrumental that offers the listener a moment of intermission between the full lengths and that builds its structure towards a grand finale accompanied by a meaningful vocal intervention, „Orbital” fades slowly into „Juno”. Having one of my favorite mixes off the record, alongside the one that follows it, „Juno” is the exact definition of what TesseracT is. More than just technicality, more than just smooth transitions, more than vocal ingenuity, but a „picture perfect moment” in which you can wonder voluntarily and completely. The longest track is „Beneath My Skin / Mirror Image”, a song that carries the listener through countless states of mind because of its complex design, of its continuous alternation between darkness and light, of the vocals that enjoy a top position more than before, of the complete detachment from the mask of harmonies and of the deliverance onto a bubble made of the emotions that define the people behind the music. The single is divided into two parts, the intro to both sections being the one that ensures the scenario into which the listener will insert himself into, reminding me of some of my favorite tracks off of „Concealing fate” and „Perspective”. „Smile” gains new features for the record unlike the version we already knew, with a softer mixing and dreamlike soundscapes towards its ending while the moments of vocal strength are a delight that we are holding our breath in anticipation of.
The closing song is the other short one of the two I mentioned before and is a step out of the light as elegant and as memorable than you can possibly get, incorporating all the elements that define the record.
Even if it may draw some critics because of its shortness, compared to the previous releases, „Sonder” represents precisely a resurrection of our love for the band, a rebirth that fits as a glove to this beautiful spring, even more so to the fans that have followed TesseracT from its beginning. Barring in mind the song structures that made them step out from the shadows and kept them high up on our djent scale, TesseracT has put into this album a work that IS TesseracT. All of their records occupy an honorable place in our musical portofolio because you can hardly say they ever put out an album that can’t be described as good, to say the least, but this one in particular brings back a lot of memories from the first time that I listened to them and fell in love. It’s not just a demonstration of technicality genius (as many bands do nowadays), it’s not just talent, it’s music. And that is all this should be about.
