Următorul album de pe listă este considerat şi unul dintre cele mai importante lansate de Evergrey. „In Search of Truth” extinde o temă abordată şi pe albumul anterior, şi anume răpirea de către extratereştri, şi îşi bazează lirica pe o carte scrisă de Whitley Strieber, intitulată „Communion”. Asemeni anteriorului, materialul este compus din nouă piese, unele dintre ele fiind şi astăzi recunoscute datorită forţei si emoţiei năucitoare pe care o transmit.
Tom ne recită încă din primele secunde ale albumului tematica pe care o menţionam mai devreme şi conceptul în jurul căruia se învârt întregile compoziţii. „The Masterplan” debutează cu o serie de opriri şi riff-uri puternice care te capturează, nu înainte însă de a-şi prezenta refrenul în care intervine şi vocea feminină şi care se transformă treptat într-o nebunie curată de drumming excesiv şi intervenţii chitaristice care-i alimentează energia, precum şi de clape cât se poate de progresive.
„Rulers Of The Mind” continuă cu aceeaşi tărie, într-o nouă demonstraţie de compoziţie concept, cu suficiente artificii care să te atragă în sine, dar şi cu o lirică care te va îndemna la un karaoke impromptu. Vocea versatilă este întregită de corul subtil şi efectele clapelor cât se poate de nepământeşti. Atmosfera pieselor pe acest album este incredibil de uşor de pătruns, de absorbit şi fascinantă datorită compoziţiilor masive atât din punct de vedere al ambiţiei cât şi al întregului. Clapele din mijlocul piesei servesc drept interludiu ce pregăteşte un outro marcant şi epic prin simpla sa gândire, lucru evidenţiat şi de corul simfonic care se suprapune cu Englund.
Obscuritatea tematicii revarsă din interiorul clapelor încă din intro-ul pentru „Watching The Skies”, pe când „State Of Paralysis” capturează momentul adevărului într-o stare de paralizie surprinsă minunat de către intervenţiile vocalului melancolic întrerupt doar de un răsunet cristalin al clapelor în acelaşi asentiment. Întâlnirea este descrisă de „The Encounter” cu o serie de riff-uri cu spirit de marş, asincron alternate cu tobele misterioase şi solo-urile tehnice.
O altă preferată, „Mark Of The Triangle” face loc chitarei înainte de a se opri în mijlocul furtunei de breakdown-uri, refrenul fiind întotdeauna introdus de o alergătură de secţiuni repetitive înlocuită cu bucăţi de respiro în care în prim plan revine melancolia. Versatilă şi cât se poate de energică, această piesă întrepătrunde tot ceea ce face Evergrey să fie Evergrey, chiar şi în prezent. De la tehnic la sentiment chiar şi atunci când nu te regăseşti în lirică, de la forţă şlefuită la inserţii de progresiv uimitoare, sau momente de intensitate care–ţi străbat sinele la suferinţă asurzitoare, greu de ignorat. Intensă şi cu o chitară grea împletită cu un cor complet, „Dark Waters”, îmbracă o formă cât se poate de dramatică şi teatrală.
Pe acelaşi ton intens intervine însă şi următoarea baladă de pe listă, „Different Worlds”, alături de un pian şi un vocal empatic.
Întregul spectru emoţional Evergrey este dezvăluit în piesa de final, „Misled”, cât se poate de direct, dar departe de a fi simplu, ascultătorul fiind purtat printr-o serie de sentimente copleşitoare.

The next record on the list is considered to be one of the most meaningful amongst the ones Evergrey released. „In Search of Truth” expands a theme that was already on the previous record, and that is the alien abduction. The lyrics are based on a writing by Whitley Strieber, called „Communion”. Much like the previous, this discographic material is made of nine tracks, some of them still being recognized and played live because of their strength and of the baffling emotion.
Tom recites right from the start of the record the theme that I was mentioning earlier, as well as the concept that the entire composition revolves around. „The Masterplan” debuts with a series of calculated stops and powerful riffs that capture you, not before showcasing its chorus during which female vocals intervene and not before transforming gradually into a pure madness of excessive drumming and guitar insertions that only nurture further its energy, as the progressive keyboards do as well.
„Rulers of the Mind” continues the same thread with the same power, in a new demonstration of a concept composition, with enough twists and turns that will draw you in, but also with lyrics that will drive you to an impromptu karaoke. The versatile vocals are made whole by the subtle choir and the unearthly keyboard effects. The atmosphere of the tracks included in the record is incredibly easy to absorb and it is fascinating because it leaves the impression of some massive writing. The keyboards included in the middle of the song serve as an interlude to what the memorable outro has in store for the listener, epic all the way through its simple structure and the overlapping choir.
The obscurity of the approached themes pour out from within the keyboards right from the intro to „Watching the Skies”, while „State of Paralysis” captures the moment of truth in a mindstate of numbness described beautifully by the melancholic vocals interupted only by the crystalline keyboards much in the same sentiment. The expected meeting happens during „The Encounter” with a series of riffs that give the impression of a march, asynchronously alternated with the misterious drums and the technical solos.
Another favorite of mine, „Mark of the Triangle”, highlights the guitar playing before stopping in the middle of the storm of breakdowns, the chorus being introduced by an impatient run down of repetitive sections replaced only by pieces of respiro during which the spotlight is on the ache. Versatile and energetic, the song intertwines everything that makes Evergrey be Evergrey, even nowadays. From emotion to technicity, from reflective force to progressive insertions, or from moments of mere intensity that devours your whole self to deafening sorrow. Intense and with a heavy guitar taking the stage and a full choir connecting every element, „Dark Waters” embodies a more dramatic and theatrical shape. On the same note the next ballad follows, „Different Worlds”, alongside an empathic piano and vocals. The entire Evergrey emotional spectrum is revealed in the final track, „Misled”, a straight forward piece, far from being simple, the listener being carried through a succession of overwhelming feelings.
