Discografie Evergrey: II. „Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy”

Ajungem în ’99, cu un Evergrey care a reuşit performanţa de a-şi găsi centrul încă de la albumul de debut şi cu o serie de piese care vor rămâne în istoria lor. „Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy” este compus din nouă piese, care abordează o tematică la fel de curioasă precum precendentul, nelipsind nici de pe acesta momentele de forţă, dar şi cele de emoţie pură.

Materialul debutează cu „Solitude Within”, o compoziţie care te aruncă fără pregătire direct în centrul revoltei emoţionale şi al durerii neşlefuite, dinamica instrumentalului fiind cea care–ţi antrenează interiorul în acest spirit de răsculare împotriva realului.
„Nosferatu” porneşte în forţă cu riff-uri la limita nebuniei ca apoi să oprească timpul asupra unui vocal care îşi întinde iţele până în interiorul tău. Intro-ul pentru „The Shocking Truth” schimbă tematica, anunţată încă din extrasul de tip documentar din primele secunde.

Aceasta este şi piesa care va da tema întregului următor material. „A Scattered Me” îşi construieşte esenţa în jurul clapelor şi al ecoului corului, pe când „She Speaks to the Dead” îşi prezintă, din nou, abordarea lirică încă din primele sale secunde, înainte de a plonja într-o nouă aventură de riff-uri care dansează în asincron cu ritmul tobelor, asemeni lui „When Darkness Falls”.

„Words Mean Nothing”, noua baladă etalon pentru Evergrey, şi una dintre piesele favorite de public în live-uri îşi pune lumina reflectoarelor asupra vocii curate, întruchiparea durerii, pe o lirică pe măsură. „Damnation” este una dintre cele mai antrenante piese de pe material, vocea feminină făcând şi pe acest material contrast cu Englund, în timp ce chitarele constante din fundal întăresc tăria repetitivă a liricii.

Finalul albumului se prezintă în forma piesei „The Corey Curse”, una dintre preferatele mele personal şi una dintre cele mai remarcabile de pe acesta atât datorită abordării diferite a instrumentalului, cât şi datorită solo-urilor întunecate, al vocilor suprapuse şi al clapelor ireale.

We’ve reached the nineties, with an Evergrey that managed the performance of finding its own style and center right from the first record and with a series of songs that will remain in their history.

„Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy” is composed by nine tracks, each aiming for a new curious theme, much like the previous record, without missing the strong moments as well as the ones with raw emotion.

The album debuts with „Solitude Within”, a composition that throws the listener without warning straight into the center of an emotional riot and of the genuine tremor, the instrumental’s dynamic being the one that is going to pace your inner self into this spirit of uprising against reality.

„Nosferatu” goes in strong with riffs at the verge of insanity just before stopping the time for the vocals that reach their strings all the way inside the listener. The intro for „The Shocking Truth” changes themes, to the one announced right from the spoken extras in the first seconds. This is the song that will lend its theme for the entire next record.

„A Scattered Me” builds its essence around the keyboards and the choir’s echo, while „She Speaks To The Dead” presents its theme from its beginning again, just before diving into a new adventure dedicated to riffs that dance in async with the rhythm established by the drums, just like in „When Darkness Falls”.

„Words Mean Nothing”, the new fingerprint ballad for Evergrey, and one of the audience’s favorite during live shows sets the spotlight on the clean vocals, the embodiment of burden, that recite some strong lyrics. „Damnation” is one of the more powerful tracks on the record, the feminine vocals contrasting Tom’s, while the constant guitars in the background reinforce the repetitive depth of the lyrics.

The end of the album takes shape into „The Corey Curse”, one of my personal favorites and one of the most remarcable off it because of its different approach of the instrumentals, as well as the sombre solos, the overlapping vocals and the surreal keyboards.
